Tracks

The choice of tracks for paper submission should be based on the main focus of the reported work. Notably, the perspective of Information Design (DI) should be highlighted in all papers.

Communication and media

Area of interest in research and reflection that addresses the role of Information Design in communication and the media in which it manifests itself. It welcomes articles whose main contributions highlight productions, discussions and criticisms in the ethical, social and/or epistemological spheres in their practice or the production of this knowledge, with a focus already consolidated on (but not restricted to):

  • efficiency of communication processes;
  • Design in analogue and digital media;
  • wayfinding systems;
  • Editorial design;
  • instructional design
  • graphic analyses;
  • sign systems;
  • sequential narratives (comics);
  • animation;
  • cinema, and;
  • other related themes that cut across these issues.

Aspects of management and innovation in communication processes within the scope of Information Design are emerging discussions that are also welcome in this category.

Education

Area of interest for research and reflection on the role of Information Design in education. It welcomes articles whose main contributions highlight productions, discussions and criticisms in ethical, social and/or epistemological spheres in their practice or the production of this knowledge, with a focus on (but not restricted to):

  • insertion of Design in education at its various educational levels;
  • teaching/learning methods and approaches from the perspective of Information Design;
  • didactic/instructional artefacts, undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in Design;
  • the teaching of Information Design, and;
  • on other related themes that cut across these issues.

Aspects of management and innovation in education within the scope of Information Design are emerging discussions that are also welcome in this category.

History and graphic memory

Area of interest in research and reflection with historical or historiographical approaches to Information Design. It welcomes articles whose main contributions highlight productions, discussions and criticisms in ethical, social and/or epistemological fields in its practice or in the production of this knowledge, with a focus already consolidated in (but not restricted to):

  • interfaces with visual culture;
  • print culture;
  • material culture and memory studies;
  • research into pioneers, precursors and the beginnings of Information Design;
  • in memory and graphic language;
  • the urban landscape;
  • cultural heritage, graphic and typographic rescues, and;
  • on other related themes that cut across these issues.

Health

Area of interest for research and reflection on the role of Information Design in health. It welcomes articles whose main contributions highlight productions, discussions and criticisms in the ethical, social and/or epistemological spheres in its practice or in the production of this knowledge, with focuses already consolidated in (but not restricted to):

  • the communicational effectiveness of health information systems, whether analogue or digital;
  • cross-cutting studies in other areas of interest applied directly to the area of health and social welfare;
  • encompassing diverse audiences and environments, and;
  • on other related themes that cut across such issues.

Emerging discussions of health management and innovation within the scope of Information Design are also welcome in this category.

Society

Area of interest for research and reflection on the role of Information Design in society. It welcomes articles whose main contributions highlight productions, discussions and criticisms in ethical, social and/or epistemological fields in its practice or the production of this knowledge, with a focus already consolidated in (but not restricted to):

  • Vernacular design;
  • craft production;
  • Participatory design;
  • accessibility;
  • Activist design (advocacy);
  • gender studies;
  • the relationship between design and anthropology, and;
  • other related themes that cut across these issues.

Aspects of management and social innovation within the scope of Information Design are emerging discussions that are also welcome in this category.

Information Visualisation

Area of interest for research and reflection on the role of Information Design in infographics, information visualisation and or data visualisation. It welcomes articles whose main contributions highlight productions, discussions and criticisms in ethical, social and/or epistemological fields in their practice or the production of this knowledge, with a focus already consolidated on (but not restricted to):

  • visual, cognitive, behavioural and symbolic aspects;
  • interpretative, exploratory and functional possibilities;
  • Design processes and methodologies orientated towards data representation in different contexts and media;
  • data literacy and codification (data culture and data literacy);
  • interfaces with data science, statistics, or other areas that also deal directly with data or structured information, and;
  • other related themes that cut across these issues.

Aspects of information materialities other than graphics (physicalization or sonifications) within Information Design's scope are emerging and welcome discussions in this category.
